Non-nutritive Sweeteners: A Smarter Choice for Weight Management? Study Finds No Increase in Appetite or Energy Intake Compared to Milk and Sugary Drinks

Energy Pods use high-quality scientifically tested non-nutritive sweeteners to enhance the taste, texture, and potential benefits of the Energy Pods. Are sweeteners the problem though?

A recent study(1) examined the effects of different beverages on appetite and found that non-nutritive sweeteners are the way to go. 24 obese individuals participated in a crossover trial where they were served 500ml of either a sugar-sweetened soft drink (900 kJ), semi-skimmed milk (950 kJ), aspartame-sweetened soft drink (7.5 kJ), or water. The researchers measured the subjects' subjective appetite scores, hormone levels, and energy intake 4 hours after consumption.

The results showed that though milk induced more fullness and hunger compared to regular cola, non-nutritive sweeteners performed better and showed no increase in appetite or energy intake compared to water.

On the other hand, energy-containing drinks (sugar-sweetened soft drinks and semi-skimmed milk) resulted in a higher energy intake and a higher risk of generating a positive energy balance.

So, next time you're reaching for a drink, make the healthier choice with non-nutritive sweetener foods with quality ingredients and quality science such as our Energy Pods that don't contribute towards a positive food intake. Go get some!
